Winter, loath it, or love it. It's a great time of year to do some base training and ensure that your lungs, legs and heart are in a good place when spring drops.
Our next generation merino wool cycling sock is about to drop and as always we've made some subtle but significant develops in order to improve them simply based on customer feedback and by incorporating new machining processes.
Merino 3.0 is the third iteration of our very popular winter cycling sock which was voted in the top 10 winter cycling socks in 2017. At PONGO London we've always stuck to a simple recipe, quality, and this range of socks in no exception. Our merino cycling socks are made from 100% Italian sourced Merino wool, and importantly Merino that is ethically sourced in Italy.
Our next generation merino cycling socks are far more than just another Merino product, these are what we would consider to be the perfect winter cycling sock.
Once again we've gone the extra mile and chosen to mercerise our yarn. This is an expensive process where we burn off the fine hairs of the yarn to create a smoother, more comfortable feel against the skin.
Even though Merino wool is one of the softest yarns available, we wanted it to be even softer whilst retaining it's desirable properties. One of the key properties of Merino is it's natural crimp that helps it trap air. Air is a fantastic insulator and provides a great buffer against the cold. Which is why we love it so much.
One key advancement in our socks is now a 100% merino padded toe and heel to ensure that there is extra comfort and importantly added heat regulating properties.
We've also increased the percentage of Merino up from 60% to 70%. We work closely with our team and Luca, a senior machine technician says "a sock made of 100% merino wool would have no structure and slip easily". Which is why we include elastane in specific areas to ensure firm placement of our winter socks.
